Why you need to retreat, sometimes.

Today’s share is about the power of retreating from ordinary life, to hear our own voice and follow it. I will share a tidbit on why we need it, and some simple ways to do it.

Of course, I can’t talk about a retreat and not talk about Sedona! So here it goes…

The funny thing about Sedona is that Sedona itself guides us back to expressing who we truly are. You can hear countless stories of people who came to Sedona, often, at a low point, or a fork in the road, who in doing something as simple as walking Sedona’s trails, suddenly have major life-altering revelations or spiritual awakenings that change their trajectory going forward. It is almost guaranteed that when you come here, something will be revealed or healed, or made manifest in one’s life. That is exactly what happened to me 15 years ago.

I planned a stay in Sedona for two weeks and remained seven months! Those were probably the most important seven months of my life, because they decided my path as a Psychic-medium and healer. Seven is an important number. It’s the number of turning inward and making manifest one’s gifts as something you actually share in your everyday life. Seven is the completion of a certain cycle of learning, presenting for us, an opportunity to reap the fruit of our efforts, or to start again. Those seven months of retreat were guided by Sedona. Yes, my greatest awakening happened in Sedona, and so can yours.

Your soul is waiting to debut its own Sedona story. But, wait, let’s get back to the value of retreats themselves…

Going on a retreat has a different intention than just taking a vacation. In fact, many people return from their vacations more exhausted than when they left! If their vacation has them consumed by stimulation, unhealthy food, though fun, it can be draining! A retreat just does the opposite.

Retreats remove us from the noise and distraction of ordinary life. They give you a break and de-stress us so that we can reconnect with ourselves, often processing all types of emotions we put on hold. A retreat allows us to get back in touch with what we truly desire…and you recharge. They can also be fun!

Sometimes doing a retreat in the company of other like-minded people helps us to feel supported, like a home away from home, or if you lack support at home, to get the support you so badly need.

You can retreat by yourself on a whim, or you can go to a group retreat. The beauty of retreating in group is that the synergy and support you receive can help tremendously in the healing process. Connection and sharing foster feelings of acceptance and love, and you can literally achieve that at a group retreat.

Even if you can’t get out of town, there are some simple ways you can create a mini-spontaneous retreat at home.

Here are some steps:

1. Journal

2. Do 3 things that make you immediately happy

3. Pay attention to your breathing for 1 minute

4. Dance

5. Sing

6. Engage a listening ear by talking to a friend

7. Go to nature
